Summer Rifle Safety Clinic
Attend a rifle safety clinic and experience Kincaid’s world class biathlon range!
Rifle Safety Clinics are normally conducted monthly, the first Wednesday of each month from 5:30-6:30 PM at the Kincaid chalet or Bunker Annex, followed by a practical application on the range. Certification at a NSAA Biathlon Committee Rifle Safety Clinic is required for use of the biathlon range at Kincaid Park, in addition to other safety requirements. No equipment is required.
About the Clinic
Bill Meyer, a Nisswa Biathlon coach from Minnesota, travels to Alaska for an annual clinic in July. Bill splits the participants into beginning and advanced athletes with an entirely new crowd of promising biathletes. The beginning biathletes spend their mornings learning the introduction information to the intricacies of range conditions and procedures. Ryan McClure and other experienced biathletes provide expertise to novices when Bill is occupied coaching individuals. Advanced athletes assist the newer athletes in the mornings and spend their afternoons receiving tips and pointers from Bill.
The clinic culminates in a race on Monday evening. Although the competition is fierce among the advanced athletes, everyone wins since they show improvement from the start of the clinic.
In March 2007 Piotr Bednarski and Algis Shalna, the U.S. Development coaches, held a clinic prior to the Spring Pursuit races. Over 40 participants came from Anchorage and outlying areas to take advantage of the national coaching.
