BIATHLON
About Us
The NSAA Biathlon Committee supports an active biathlon community in South Central Alaska. Biathlon, which combines skiing with shooting, is a challenging sport which requires fitness and concentration. Races are planned monthly November through March at the Kincaid Biathlon Range. Summer biathlon races which combine rollerskiing or running and shooting are held during the summer.
The Biathlon Committee is the sponsoring organization for biathlon in Anchorage. It is a volunteer organization supported by members and race participants. The committee manages the Kincaid Range which is located a short walk south of the Kincaid Chalet. The range serves as the focal point for biathlon races at the park. Participation requires rifle safety certification, which includes instruction on safe rifle handling practices, care and use of a biathlon rifle and biathlon technique. The committee makes 22 caliber biathlon rifles available for use during range openings and races.
The Biathlon Committee is providing input to the Kincaid Project plan which involves relocating and upgrading the biathlon range as well as constructing soccer fields, a rollerski loop, disc golf courses, and providing snowmaking capabilities. The committee also is considering directions that we would like the sport of biathlon to go in Alaska within the framework of the USBA National Program. If you have ideas or topics to suggest, or thoughts pertinent to these two general topics, please contact Joel Hubbard. |
