     GREAT TIPS :: Trail Etiquette

TRAIL Etiquette

Trail Etiquette:

  1. Do not take mtn. bikes, dogs, or horses on xc ski trails. Use only designated multi-use trails.
  2. Do not walk on groomed ski trails.
  3. Horses and dog owners are responsible for picking up any dropping on the trails.
  4. Avoid walking or running on diaganolxc ski tracks.
  5. Move off trail to allow grooming equipment to pass.
  6. Avoid skiing right after groomers have groomed trails. It takes 2-4 hours for the freshly groomed trails to set up.
  7. Do not ski the wrong way on one way trails. Keep to the right on two-way trails.
  8. Do not skate on diagonal (classic ski) tracks.
  9. Respect the wildlife. Enjoy watching but don't hassle them.
  10. If you fall, please get off the trail as soon as you can.
  11. Do not xc ski on the dog mushing trails. If you find you are on a trail, go back.
  12. Please let others know that you are approaching them from behind by politely calling out "trail" or "on you left".
  13. If you are skiing fast and come upon slower skiers, please reduce your speed while you pass on their left - then take off again once you have passed them. Think of other skiers as yield signs.
  14. Fill in sitzmarks (disturbed snow left when you fall)
  15. Downhill skiers have the right-of-way.
  16. Buy a membership to support cross country skiing today!

Construction Crews on the Trails:

  1. Avoid areas where machines are working
  2. Restrain your animals.
  3. Make eye contact with equipment operators before passing. Make sure that they see you!!!
  4. Give right away to equipment working
  5. We'll watch out for you, but watch out for yourself.

Trail Etiquette when Biathlon Range in Use:

  1. Do not move through the paved firing area when the range is in use; instead, travel behind the double fences at the rear of this area.
  2. Keep pets on leash near the range when it is in use.
  3. For safety, do not climb the vegetated earthen berm nearest the building to see what is going on when the range is in use.
  4. You are encouraged to stop and watch from behind the double fence line as the biathletes go through their training sessions.
