Hillside Park

Monday, 2/8/10

Tom is grooming right now so there is somewhere for the high school team to practice.  He will be back out tonight to groom the rest of the park.

Inquiring Minds Need to Know:  We’ve recently received a few inquiries regarding the grooming schedule out at the Hillside.  Basically some folks want to know why the groomer is out earlier in the evening/late afternoon rather than late at night.  Well, what it boils down to is that the Hillside trails are used so heavily by mid-day users and the high school teams in the afternoon that they are getting beaten up before the after work skiers get a chance to get out there.  So Tom, the perfectionist, has been grooming the Hillside not once, but twice a day.  He heads out after the high school teams to try to spiff up the trails for the evening crowd and then he comes back later in the night to go over the trails again.

Kincaid Park

Monday - 2/8/10

By mid-day today the crew had finished up the lighted loop, the Horseshoe, the Lake loop and the multi-use trail.  Kincaid did not get buried in snow last night.

Sisson Loop Warning: Watch for equipment on the Sisson Loop (northern part of north loop) coming out of the airport and crossing the Coastal Trail at the blue footbridge. Alaska Dept. of Fish & Game will be working all week cleaning up an old dump. Trail traffic may be stopped for a few minutes while we cross.

Jodhpur Lights:
Per MOA Facility Maintenance: This area of lighting has been determined to be a severe electrical hazard and life safety issue and will be shut down entirely until the spring/summer of 2010 at the very least.

Eagle River – Chugiak

Monday - 2/8/10

Bill went out this morning and groomed the new snow at Beach Lake.  It came out nicely. This evening he will groom Mirror Lake, Gruening, and Eagle River.

MOA Maintained Multi-Use Trails

MOA Trail Status Report  Last week, we heard from one of our NSAA members on Friday that the Chester Creek Trail and the Coastal Trail were nicely groomed, making for a beautiful cross town ski.  He did report that the tunnels before Westchester Lagoon were a bit thin on snow, so don’t go barreling into the tunnels!

Chugiak State Park

Remember these trails are multi-use – walkers, runners, and dogs are welcome there.

If you are skiing in Chugach State Park, remember that the trails are multi-use trails and that dogs are allowed off leash 100 feet from the parking lot.  Be courteous and beware!  Cars need a current State Park sticker or plan to pay the $5 daily Park fee.  Park stickers are for sale at AMH, REI, and Sportsman’s Warehouse.
