About the Logo
The goal of the design was to visually read "nordic race" and "alaska" using as simple of artwork as possible. The silhouette of a foreground and background skier was a great solution to show the sport and competition. The background graphic is derived from Native art in the southeast region of Alaska but this design does not represent a particular people or culture. The circular shape with decorative border has iconic connections with a sun and bursts. The colors and shapes were chosen to be strong, solid and dramatic, appropriately representing a world-class athletic event.
