Anchorage brings Randall’s 12th, Freeman’s 13th national titles
ANCHORAGE – Local skier Kikkan Randall won her 12th national title during the 10-kilometer freestyle race this afternoon at the 2010 ConocoPhillips U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships at Kincaid Park. Earlier in the day Randall’s fellow U.S. Ski Team member, Kris Freeman, won the men’s 15-K race capturing his 13th national title.
Randall cruised through the 10-K course with a time of 28 minutes and 40.1 seconds followed by Caitlin Compton of Minneapolis, 28:55.05, and Elizabeth Stephen of East Montpelier, Vt., 29:03.7. Alaskans with top 10 finishes included Randall; Holly Brooks, 7th place; Nicole De Young, 9th; and Tazlina Mannix, 10th.
Freeman of Andover, N.H., won the 15-K course by nearly half a minute and a time of 37:17.6 followed by Tad Elliott of Durango, Colo., 37:42.1, and local skier James Southam, 38:15.2. Fellow Alaska Pacific University Nordic Center Program skier Lars Flora, who took 6th, joined Southam in the top 10.

Racing resumes at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, with the women’s 20-K and men’s 30-K classic mass start championships.
