Anchorage is Golden: Local Skiers Randall and Southam
Claim National Titles at U.S. XC Championships
ANCHORAGE – On the third day of the 2010 ConocoPhillips U.S. Cross Country Championships in Anchorage, local Kikkan Randall won her third national title in as many races. Another Anchorage skier, James Southam, won the 30-kilometer men’s classic race.
Randall, racing the 20-K women’s classic race finished in 1 hour, 14 minutes and 19 seconds and was followed by Holly Brooks, also of Anchorage, ten seconds behind with a time of 1:14:29.2. Caitlin Compton of Minneapolis finished third in 1:15:04.7.
Southam finished the men’s race in 1:32:08.3 to beat U.S. Ski Team member Kris Freeman of Andover, N.H., 1:33:18.2, helping his case as he chases an Olympic team selection. Bryan Cook of Rhinelander, Wis., finished third in 1:33:43.

The 2010 ConocoPhillips U.S. Cross Country Championships will conclude with the men’s 1.5-K and women’s 1.4-K classic sprint races on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. Sprint quarterfinals will begin at 12:30 p.m. followed immediately by semifinals and finals.
