The Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage brings you the fifth annual Solstice Tree Tour: A unique Alaskan celebration of Winter Solstice and the return of longer days!

As a northern community, we need events that encourage all ages and abilities to get outside and celebrate the winter solstice, especially in the middle of a pandemic. We have modified the event to create a COVID friendly atmosphere for local businesses to sponsor and decorate trees on some of the most loved trails in Anchorage. NSAA will open both the Kincaid Mize’s Loop and the Hillside Randy’s Loop trails to all users for one day only. There will be lots of people on the trails, please leave dogs at home.

Participants can RSVP starting December 1 for either location and enjoy walking through the winter wonderland on trails that are normally only accessed by skiers. This is a very popular, family friendly event, bringing together all ages, levels of fitness, and outdoor enthusiasts.

COVID-19 Precautions

It’s the same fun and festive event, but with precautions. Masks are required and social distancing outside of a family “bubble” will be required and monitored. Participants will need to RSVP (for free!) and a limited capacity of participants will be allowed on the trails at a time. Please no distribution of food or drink at your tree this year. Please review the complete Mitigation Plan here updated 11/24/2020.

Interested in Sponsoring a Tree?

The cost of a basic tree sponsorship is $500 and trees are available for sponsorship/decoration at either location. If your business is struggling due to the impact of COVID and you are interested in alternative options for participation, please contact the NSAA office. Businesses can choose their own decorations and can include lights, ornaments, ribbons, etc. Get creative!! Businesses can give out promotional information (coupons, etc.) at their tree during the event. After touring the loop, participants will have the opportunity to vote on the best tree.

The winning company will be given ¼ page color ad in the Alaska Nordic Skier publication (valued at $250) as well as all of the businesses being featured on a high traffic page of the NSAA website (189k visits last season).

Additional Sponsorship Opportunities

If decorating a tree does not sound appealing, there are many other ways to get involved and since this is a large event, we are looking for any suggestions/feedback.

If you would like to be involved or have any questions, please email Sara Miller at solsticetreetour@gmail.com
